Twinspot Goby

Signigobius biocellatus

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific

Also known as the crab-eyed goby, it features prominent false eye-spots on its dorsal fins used to mimic a crab. It spends its life continuously sifting mouthfuls of fine sand for tiny microfauna. It requires a mature, live-sand bed, as it often starves in sterile or newly established setups.

Also called: Twinspot goby, Crab-eye goby, Crab-eyed goby, Four-eyed gobby, Signal goby.

Saltwater species. The planner judges it with a marine rule set. A reef or fish-only tank takes months to mature and costs more to run than freshwater. See the marine page.

Diet and tank layout

Twinspot Goby is an carnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It is safe with plants. Give it plenty of cover. It digs, so anchor plants and keep hard rock off loose sand.
