Midas Blenny

Ecsenius midas

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific Usually captive bred

Boasting a glorious golden-yellow hue and bright blue-rimmed eyes, this charming blenny swims sinuously like an eel through open water, mimicking anthias. When resting, it backs neatly into narrow holes. It is safe in reefs, highly charismatic, but requires a fitted aquarium lid due to its startling jumping ability.

Also called: Golden blenny, Lyretail blenny, Lyre-tail comb-tooth.

12 cm adult length, drawn to scale. eel body.

Saltwater species. The planner judges it with a marine rule set. A reef or fish-only tank takes months to mature and costs more to run than freshwater. See the marine page.
