Snowflake Moray Eel

Echidna nebulosa

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific

A striking marine predator adorned with black-and-gold snowflake rosettes across an ivory body. Crustacean-eaters rather than piscivores, they generally ignore appropriately sized fish but devour crabs and ornamental shrimp. A heavy, escape-proof lid is completely mandatory, as they easily slither through minute gaps.

Also called: Snowflake moray, Bosch' moray eel, Bosch's moray, Bosch's reef-eel, Clouded eel.

60 cm adult length, drawn to scale. eel body.

Outgrows a typical home tank. Check this fish against the adult size above before buying a juvenile. The minimum shown is the least it is kept in for good, not a comfortable size.
Saltwater species. The planner judges it with a marine rule set. A reef or fish-only tank takes months to mature and costs more to run than freshwater. See the marine page.
