Four Stripe Damselfish

Dascyllus melanurus

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific Usually captive bred

A hardy, deep-bodied marine damsel boasting crisp black and white vertical bands. While deceptively charming and inexpensive when juvenile, it rapidly becomes intensely aggressive as it matures. It should only be housed with equally robust, assertive marine species capable of defending their own territory.

Also called: Black tail humbug, Black-tail dascyllus, Blacktail humbug.

7.5 cm adult length, drawn to scale. deep body.

Saltwater species. The planner judges it with a marine rule set. A reef or fish-only tank takes months to mature and costs more to run than freshwater. See the marine page.
