Niger Triggerfish
Odonus niger
Marine Marine Indo-Pacific
A stunning deep blue-to-emerald triggerfish with distinctive red teeth and fluttering lyretail fins. More sociable and open-swimming than other triggers, it feeds heavily from the water column. However, it grows formidable, locks itself into rockwork crevices at night, and easily consumes snails, ornamental crabs, and cleaner shrimp.
Also called: Red-toothed triggerfish, Black-bodied triggerfish, Blue triggerfish.

| Experience | Suits a first tank | A guide to how forgiving the species is of mistakes. |
| Salinity | Marine, about SG 1.023 to 1.025 | Needs salt water, a different build and a longer-running tank than a freshwater set-up. |
Tags marked estimated are judged from the size and habits of the species rather than measured, so treat them as a sensible default.
