Longspine Porcupinefish

Diodon holocanthus

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific

A fascinating marine oddity possessing large, expressive eyes and movable spines covering its body. It quickly becomes tame and begs for food, but produces enormous bioload. Not reef safe, it readily crushes crustaceans and molluscs using powerful beak-like plates, requiring heavy skimming and voluminous water.

Also called: Longspined porcupinefish, Ajargo, Ballonfish, Balloon porcupinefish, Balloonfish.
