Siganus guttatus

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific

A hardy, handsomely spotted marine browser with venomous dorsal spines. It spends its day picking continuously at nuisance filamentous algae and micro turf. Give it abundant swimming room and reliable vegetable fare, taking care never to handle it with bare hands due to painful stings.

Also called: Goldlined spinefoot, Deepbody spinefoot, Golden rabbit fish, Golden rabbitfish.

30 cm adult length, drawn to scale. deep body.

Outgrows a typical home tank. Check this fish against the adult size above before buying a juvenile. The minimum shown is the least it is kept in for good, not a comfortable size.
Saltwater species. The planner judges it with a marine rule set. A reef or fish-only tank takes months to mature and costs more to run than freshwater. See the marine page.

Diet and tank layout

Goldspotted Rabbitfish is an herbivore that swims in all levels of the tank. It eats or uproots plants, so choose hard-leaved species or none. Give it some cover.
