Russel's Lionfish
Pterois russelii
Marine Marine Indo-Pacific
An elegant marine predator displaying sweeping, fan-like pectoral fins and bold vertical banding. It will effortlessly swallow any crustacean or fish small enough to fit inside its expansive mouth. Keepers must exercise extreme caution during aquarium maintenance because the dorsal and anal spines deliver a painful, venomous sting.
Also called: Plaintail turkeyfish, Clearfin lionfish, Largetail turkeyfish, Lionfish.
