Striated Frogfish

Antennarius striatus

Marine Marine Indo-Pacific

A master of camouflage resembling a hairy sponge or rock, complete with a worm-like lure on its snout. Sedentary yet ravenous, its lightning-fast gulp can swallow prey nearly matching its own body size. Best kept alone in a dedicated marine aquarium to prevent it eating or being picked at by tankmates.

Also called: Striated frogfish, Black angler, Blotched anglerfish, Spitlure frogfish, Splitlure frogfish.

18 cm adult length, drawn to scale. round body.

Saltwater species. The planner judges it with a marine rule set. A reef or fish-only tank takes months to mature and costs more to run than freshwater. See the marine page.

Diet and tank layout

Striated Frogfish is an carnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It is safe with plants. Give it some cover. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
