Montezuma Swordtail
Xiphophorus montezumae
Freshwater Central America Usually captive bred
A wild-type livebearer famed for the male's extraordinarily long swordtail, which can exceed the body length. They are energetic swimmers hailing from fast-flowing highland streams. Keep them in cool, hard, oxygen-rich water with a secure lid, allowing ample swimming length for males to display properly.
Also called: Montezuma swordtail, Mexican swordtail.
