Striped Raphael Catfish
Platydoras costatus
Freshwater South America
An armoured, nocturnal catfish recognised by sharp lateral scutes and prominent cream-and-chocolate stripes. Incredibly durable and quiet during daylight, they emerge after dark to scavenge. Tiny fish that sleep near the bottom might be swallowed, and their pectoral spines snag easily in nets.
Also called: Raphael catfish, Chocolate catfish, Chocolate doradid, Striped raphael catfish.

Diet and tank layout
Striped Raphael Catfish is an carnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It is safe with plants. Give it plenty of cover. It digs, so anchor plants and keep hard rock off loose sand. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
