Jewel Cichlid
Rubricatochromis guttatus
Freshwater West and central Africa Usually captive bred
A glittering riverine cichlid decorated with sparkling cyan speckles over a copper or blood-red body. Breeding pairs become ferociously aggressive, dominating community tanks and relentlessly driving away rivals. They need sturdy decor and are best housed in a dedicated species setup or with robust tankmates.

Diet and tank layout
Jewel Cichlid is an carnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It leaves most plants alone. Give it plenty of cover. It digs, so anchor plants and keep hard rock off loose sand. It will eat fish small enough to swallow. It nips fins.
