Croaking Gourami
Trichopsis vittata
Freshwater South-east Asia Usually captive bred
An understated gourami bearing iridescent turquoise flecks and vivid blue eyes, named for its ability to produce audible croaks during courtship. It thrives in quiet, heavily planted aquariums with negligible surface turbulence. Keep with small, serene companions to prevent it from becoming overly withdrawn.
Also called: Croaking gourami, Talking gourami.
