Silver Tetra
Tetragonopterus argenteus
Freshwater South America
A robust, disc-shaped characin with shimmering silver scales and a dark caudal spot. Highly energetic and boisterous, it readily nips long flowing fins and will consume tender aquatic plants. Keep in a lively community with similarly robust fish, robust tough greenery, and plenty of swimming room.

Diet and tank layout
Silver Tetra is an omnivore that swims in the middle of the tank. It eats or uproots plants, so choose hard-leaved species or none. Give it some cover. It will eat fish small enough to swallow. It nips fins.
