Lima Shovelnose Catfish
Sorubim lima
Freshwater South America
A slender predatory catfish with a flattened spatula-like snout and distinctive horizontal striping. Lima shovelnoses often hover head-down among branches, ambush hunting at dusk. They stay remarkably peaceful towards larger tank mates, but their wide mouths will readily engulf any fish small enough to swallow whole.
Also called: Duckbill catfish, Catfish, Lima shovelnose, Shovel-nosed catfish.
