Rosy Bitterling
Rhodeus ocellatus
Freshwater East Asia Usually captive bred
A hardy, cold-tolerant cyprinid whose males blush deep rose-pink with metallic blue flashes in breeding condition. It relies on a unique symbiosis, laying eggs directly into live freshwater mussels via the female's ovipositor. It flourishes best in unheated setups with clean, well-filtered water.
Also called: Rosy bitterling, Rose bitterling.
