Gangetic Leaffish
Nandus nandus
Freshwater South Asia
Camouflaged as a mottled, decaying leaf, this stealthy predator floats motionlessly amongst dense aquatic vegetation. It possesses an astonishingly expansible jaw that easily swallows prey half its size. It rarely accepts commercial dried feeds, needing regular live or thawed meaty fare.
Also called: Gangetic leaffish, Leaf fish, Mottled nandus, Mud perch.
