Lesser Spiny Eel
Macrognathus aculeatus
Freshwater South-east Asia
A slender, nocturnal spiny eel with cryptic marbling and a sensitive, proboscis-like snout. It spends daylight buried under the substrate or hidden in hollows. Use soft sand to avoid skin abrasions, ensure an escape-proof lid, and provide meaty foods such as bloodworms and earthworms.
Also called: Lesser spiny eel, Spiny eel.

Diet and tank layout
Lesser Spiny Eel is an carnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It is safe with plants. Give it plenty of cover. It digs, so anchor plants and keep hard rock off loose sand. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
