Chocolate Cichlid
Hypselecara temporalis
Freshwater South America Usually captive bred
A gentle giant among South American cichlids, showing rich shades of olive, pink, and deep brown that shift with mood. Despite reaching a substantial size, it is remarkably unaggressive toward medium-sized tank mates, though it will casually inhale tiny fish that fit into its mouth.
Also called: Chocolate cichlid, Emerald cichlid, F cichlid, Hellabrunn cichlid, Temporalis.

| Experience | Some experience helps | A guide to how forgiving the species is of mistakes. |
Tags marked estimated are judged from the size and habits of the species rather than measured, so treat them as a sensible default.
Diet and tank layout
Chocolate Cichlid is an omnivore that swims in the middle of the tank. It leaves most plants alone. Give it plenty of cover. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
