Eastern Mosquitofish
Gambusia holbrooki
Freshwater North America Usually captive bred
A plain, extraordinarily hardy livebearer famed for controlling mosquito larvae in still waters. It has a pugnacious temperament, frequently nipping fins and outcompeting docile species. Avoid housing it in gentle community aquaria or releasing it into waterways under any circumstance.
