Checkerboard Cichlid
Dicrossus filamentosus
Freshwater South America
An exquisite dwarf cichlid sporting a checkerboard lattice pattern along its flanks and lyre-shaped caudal fin extensions in mature males. Extremely delicate and shy, it requires very soft, acidic, pristine water to flourish. Fine sand, leaf litter, and gentle tankmates are mandatory for long-term health.
Also called: Chessboard cichlid, Checkerboard lyretail, Lyrefinned checkerboard cichlid.
