Wrestling Halfbeak
Dermogenys pusilla
Freshwater South-east Asia Usually captive bred
A small surface-dwelling livebearer with an extended, beak-like lower jaw used to snatch floating terrestrial insects. Males routinely lock jaws in spirited territorial wrestling bouts, necessitating plenty of floating plant cover. They will readily bolt out of open water, meaning a tight cover glass is mandatory.
Also called: Freshwater halfbeak, Half beak, Halfbeak.
