Port Cichlid
Cichlasoma portalegrense
Freshwater South America Usually captive bred
An old-school aquarium favourite, the port cichlid is remarkably gentle and planted-tank friendly compared to most relatives. It sports dusky green scales with a dark caudal spot. It thrives in cooler water than equatorial cichlids, making it an unfussy and rewarding addition to temperate or subtropical community setups.

Diet and tank layout
Port Cichlid is an omnivore that swims in the middle of the tank. It is safe with plants. Give it some cover. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
