Saddle Cichlid
Aequidens tetramerus
Freshwater South America Usually captive bred
The Saddle Cichlid is a hardy, adaptable South American species characterised by a distinctive dark blotch beneath its dorsal fin. It exhibits moderate aggression compared to Central American relatives, making it suitable for mixed larger communities provided tankmates cannot be consumed.
Also called: Saddle cichlid, Saddleback acara.

Diet and tank layout
Saddle Cichlid is an omnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It leaves most plants alone. Give it some cover. It digs, so anchor plants and keep hard rock off loose sand. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
