Yellow Acara
Aequidens metae
Freshwater South America
A robust, attractively patterned cichlid from Colombia with warm golden flanks and dark facial markings. Generally peaceful outside breeding, a bonded pair will firmly defend their chosen nesting site. Provide sand, bogwood caves, and medium-sized robust tank mates to prevent the pair from turning on passive community fish.

Diet and tank layout
Yellow Acara is an omnivore that swims in the lowest part of the tank. It leaves most plants alone. Give it plenty of cover. It digs, so anchor plants and keep hard rock off loose sand. It will eat fish small enough to swallow.
