Aquarium Related Tips

1. Cloudy water is normally a sign of overfeeding your aquarium. Judge the right amount of food to place in the aquarium to not leave too much residue due to overfeeding.

2. Stingrays make wonderful pets for the aquarium, but make sure you can properly care for your stingray in your home aquarium.

3. When you are removing a large ornamental rock from your aquarium, make sure to check all the nooks and crannies. Some fish love to hide in there and it is good to double check to make sure you donít leave one of your fish out of water.

Swissguard Basslet

$92.50

(lipropoma rubre)
Saltwater

A rare aquarium fish, as it inhabits very deep waters inside the recesses of coral reefs. They are difficult to capture because they rarely venture out of their home, except to find food; leaving their home puts it at risk of becoming another sea creature's dinner. Because of its rarity, this is a very sought after fish. It has an elongated body with alternating horizontal stripes of dark red and yellow that run from the nose to the end of the tail. The dorsal fins have a black spot, as does the caudal fin, which has two spots connected by a black bar. The mouth and nose are purple. Not to be confused with the Swale's Swissguard, which has different coloration's.

Size: 1" to 2"; can get up to 3"
No. in Tank: One, more than may cause territorial disputes that could lead to fighting.
Tank: min. 30 gallon
Temperament: Peaceful. If have more than one and one or the other begins to harass, they need to be separated into different tanks.
Food: (Carnivore) Can feed prepared chopped meats, mysid shrimp, marine fish and crustacean flesh.
Light: None, a deep water fish unaccustomed to bright light.
Adaptability: Do well in deep tanks with plenty of caves for hiding. Need overhangs, live rock and coral. If a light is used, the fish will most likely remain out of view until the reef light is dimmed or turned off. If adding two, they must be added together to avoid territorial disputes. If harassments begin, one of the fish needs to be removed else fighting may occur.
Compatibility: Ideal for reef systems and non-aggressive tank-mates. May bother smaller crustaceans.
