The Pencil urchin, scientifically known as Eucidaris tribuloides, starts its life as a yellow brownish spiny creature, but as the coralline algae accumulates on the body of this urchin over time, it will most likely adopt a unique brown and purple appearance. This Caribbean native will also take care of a lot of algae in your tank as it feeds on the algae for nourishment. It is very easy to keep the Pencil urchin in your marine aquarium as it feeds mostly on algae to survive. The Pencil Urchin will squeeze between rocks and into crevices to search for uneaten food and algae. If you do not have algae in your tank you can supplement the Pencil Urchins diet with dried sea weed sheet.
