Koi are Goldfish that are originally from the freshwater bodies around the country of Japan. Koi are a very popular species of freshwater fish, and have been the main fish in small ponds for centuries. Koi can grow up to 3 feet in length and should be kept in a pond of at least 1000 gallons to provide plenty of swimming and living room for them. Koi are peaceful fish, and are social fish. For this reason, we recommend you keep groups of Koi in your pond. Koi are easy to care for, and can be kept by the beginning enthusiast with little problem.
