Aquarium Related Tips

1. When you are removing a large ornamental rock from your aquarium, make sure to check all the nooks and crannies. Some fish love to hide in there and it is good to double check to make sure you donít leave one of your fish out of water.

2. It is important to pay attention to the limitations of the fish you place in the aquarium. Do not place fish into aquariums smaller than there recommended range, this can lead to increased aggression and decreased health.

3. You should never add uncured live rock to the aquarium. Doing so can release harmful levels of ammonia into your aquarium.

1LT Granular Activated Carbon (6 lot)

$82.99

For use in activated carbon filters. A carbon material with exceptionally high surface area, making it ideal as a filtration additive. Perfect for removing coloration (particularly Gelbstoff, which causes a yellow tint in water) and unpleasant aromas from your tank's water. Because of the surface area, activated carbon is one of the most absorptive substances known to man, and is capable of removing vast quantities of contaminants from your tank. Since the carbon is positively charged, it will attract and retain any negatively charged contaminants from the water as it passes through the filter. An excellent addition to your filtration set-up.

Instructions:

Because it can add phosphates, and thus cause algae growth, in your aquarium, as well as potentially remove beneficial organic compounds, use only as much as needed to control coloration and odor development. Generally, approximately 3 tablespoons (Tbsp) is sufficient for about 50 gallons of tank water. Activated carbon will lose effectiveness as the carbon absorbs it's capacity of material, so it will need to be changed periodically to maintain effectiveness. Because each aquarium is unique, it will take some experimentation to figure out the proper intervals to change the carbon in your particular tank.
