Found in the cool waters off the coasts of Southern California and Mexico, this fish is one of the largest damselfish (up to one foot, two inches), and has an extremely long lifespan (up to 25 years). Juveniles are orange with many bright blue spots all over its body, and fins outlined in blue. Adults lose the blue spots leaving just the orange coloration, and fins very faintly outlined in grey. Adult males are larger than females and have a lobe on the front of their head. Uniquely, it is the only member of its species.

Temperament: Peaceful, except to own kind.
Food: (Omnivore) Needs a varied diet of meaty items, vegetables and herbivore preparations. Enriched foods will help slow the fading of colors as this fish matures. Feed small amounts (what it can eat in 3 to 5 minutes), 2 to 3 times a day.
Light: High
Adaptation: Needs room to swim and live rock for territories. It will take 2+ hours to fully acclimate.
Compatibility: No small, peaceful, docile tank-mates. Best with other large fish. Aggressive towards its own kind, yet peaceful towards other fish. Generally safe in a reef system.
