1. Some people go by the "inch of fish, gallon of water" rule when deciding on how large of an aquarium to buy. This is a completely false and bad method to go by, you should always check your individual fish's tank requirements.
2. It is a good idea to keep carbon on hand in case of emergencies. Carbon can be used to soak up anything harmful that may be introduced into your aquarium. So keeping an emergency stock can be a life saver.
3. Avoid placing your aquarium near a radiator or any other form of heater. The heat given off by these devices can easily upset the temperature balance in your aquarium. Raised temperature levels can kill off the fish and plants that you have in your aquarium.
