The Flame Scallop is scientifically named Lima Scabra. It is named for the bright red color of its mantle and most of the times its tentacles are of the same color. Its tentacles extend from its shell and are a dual fold function. These tentacles are sweeper tentacles that enable the flame scallop to capture its prey and feed itself. With its tentacles the flame scallop helps to deter predators from attaching it. This scallop is also known as the flame scallop due to the fact that its shell has a rasp like texture. The flame scallop is however vulnerable to bristle worms who can break into the shell and eat or otherwise harm the scallop.
