Aquarium Related Tips

1. Purchasing fish that feed off of algae is a good plan to take care of an algae problem in your aquarium. You could also try cutting back the amount of lighting in the aquarium or get an algae treatment chemical to take care of any algae problems.

2. You must always treat the water in the aquarium before attempting to place fish. If you fail to treat the water the fish can die from the condition of the water.

3. Try to provide an environment that is as stable as possible, fluctuations in the aquarium can have a negative impact on the aquarium. Try to keep the temperature and PH levels fairly balanced in your aquarium.

Bicolor Blenny

$17.75

(ecsenius bicolor)
Saltwater

Known also as a Flametail Blenny and a Two-Color Blenny, this fish is native to the Indo-Pacific Oceans and can be found through-out Micronesia. A very popular fish, mainly for it's colouration. With a Blue upper body and an orange lower body, it is quite striking. Others have used the adjective "cute." It's a hardy fish and a helpful fish. It will help control the growth of algae in your aquarium.

Size: 3/4" to 1 1/2"; can get up to 4 1/2"
Tank: min. 30 gallon
Temperament: Peaceful. Can be territorial and become aggressive to any fish that comes near its favorite hole (home).
Food: (Herbivore) Mainly eats algae. A varied diet of frozen herbivore preparations, blue-green algae and other finely chopped veggie matter. Feed several times a day.
Light: Medium
Adaptation: Needs live rock for its algae growth and in which to hide in the small holes. This blenny is a bottom swimmer and needs room to swim, mainly at dinnertime, when it will dash out of its hole, get its prey and zoom back into the safety of its hole in the rock.
Compatibility: Needs a reef system with peaceful tank-mates. Do not mix with other blennies. When this fish feels belligerent, it may pick on clam mantles and corals. Has been known to also pick on small polyped coral, but it is rare.
